Hello,
My name is Amanda Abbott, aka Ms. A.
I love literature, reading and performance arts. Music, traveling, and soccer are also a big part of my life. It has been a long rode to get to get here and I am nervous but very excited!
Interests: Putumayo World Music
Recently I have been working with Latin American Literature and the genre -> Magical Realism. The standard definition of this genre is a realistic story or setting where magical or unrealistic things happen, but, there is a lot more to explore than that! Our first lesson will get our journey started. Music in the classroom will be a big part of my pedagogical practice. For our unit on Latin American Literature we will listen to music from the author's perspective homelands. For a sneak peak of this check out the Putumayo World Music site above.
Hobbies: World Cup Soccer
I love Soccer and have been avidly watching the World Cup 2010 - South Africa games whenever I can!
Check out the FIFA site above!
Also, I have been fortunate enough to have travelled alot and would love to travel the world more extensively in the future. I hope to one day, perhaps, to teach in other countries as well. Two favorite places that I have visited recently are - San Diego, CA trip - because I got to drive 9 hours to see the GRAND CANYON! We hiked about 7 miles! Another trip that I will never forget was my trip to Tahiti, French Polynesia. It truly is a lost world - paradise type of place. I got to swim with Stingrays and Black tip reef sharks! I will never forget it.
I am looking forward to hearing all of your stories on the first day of class!
